Worcester Polytechnic Institute announces NEWMAC and Division III Celebrates Officials’ Appreciation Week for Spring Sports
From April 03, 2023 post.
WESTWOOD, Mass. - The NEWMAC is celebrating its second installment of "Officials' Appreciation Week" for the academic year along with all other Division III conferences. This is a nationwide initiative to recognize and thank conference officials across all sports. The NEWMAC began the inaugural celebration in January to celebrate the winter season officials. This week the conference will celebrate the spring sport officials.
The spring appreciation week will take place at home events of each NEWMAC institution from April 3rd to April 9th. On Thursday, April 6th the NEWMAC will be spotlighting a few long time NEWMAC officials throughout our spring sports.
The commitment of NEWMAC officials and referees to safe, fair and competitive contests is a critical part of the student-athlete experience.
As expressed by Executive Director Patrick B. Summers during the inaugural kick off, "It's important to acknowledge, recognize and appreciate all of our officials and what they do for our sports. They are an integral part of intercollegiate competition and without them we could not play. I look forward to celebrating Officials' Appreciation Week and to continue the hard work the NEWMAC and the DIIICA has done around officiating.”
Officials' Appreciation Week is one of numerous initiatives that are being implemented as part of the Division III Commissioners Association (DIIICA) Strategic Plan for Collegiate Officiating that was created as a result of the DIIICA's Strategic Analysis of the State of Collegiate Officiating. The NEWMAC continues to show commitment to officiating at the national level, as Executive Director Patrick B. Summers championed both these projects as chair of the Division III Commissioners Association Officiating Committee and continues to serve as a member of the committee today.
DIII Officials' Appreciation Week is being held in conjunction with Division II conferences across the country. The effort is designed to recognize officials for the important role they play in competition across all sports
