Westwood, MA --- Five WPI spring student-athletes were named to the sixth-annual NEWMAC All-Sportsmanship Team, as announced as part of the league's postseason award program.

Seniors Chris Cavallaro (West Haven, CT), Abby Calistra (North Attleboro, MA) and Emily Howard (Londonderry, NH) were Baseball, Women's Track and Field and Women's Rowing's selections respectively while Men's Track and Field's pick was junior Tristan Andrew (Newtown, CT) and softball's honoree was Mia Francisco (Hudson, NH).

What the coaches are saying:

Miles Ketchum - Men's Track and Field Head Coach on Tristan Andrew - "Tristan is a role model for every aspect of the sport.  He shows up on time, communicates thoroughly and proactively, competes hard, and encourages everyone around him. At the NEWMAC Championship this year, in a highlight of sportsmanship, I watched Tristan shake the hand of every one of his competitors after a difficult race that did not go his way. This is not something that is required or traditional in Track & Field, and it was a moment that every coach would be proud of."

Miles Ketchum - Women's Track and Field Head Coach on Abby Calistra - "Abby was a rock for the team this year, especially the other throwers who looked to her for leadership and guidance on a daily basis.  Her consistency, patience, and quiet work ethic earned the respect of her teammates, competitors, and coaches. The team would not have been able to grow and accomplish what it did without the example that Abby set every day for the past four years."

Brendan Casey - Baseball Head Coach on Chris Cavallaro - "Chris was an extremely selfless individual that put the needs of the team first. He did everything in his power to help the team on and off the field to be successful. He was a model teammate and a true student-athlete."

Heather Ross - Softball Head Coach on Mia Francisco - "Mia played a huge part in our team culture this season in bringing a fun, easy-going personality to high competitive atmospheres.  She showed commitment to her role while always supporting her teammates, and is a pillar of integrity, class, respect, and connection in everything WPI and the NEWMAC represents."

Jason Steele - Women's Rowing Head Coach on Emily Howard - "Emily brought tremendous commitment to her role as our 2V8 coxswain.  She held to high standards in her boat while creating an environment of respect and support where many of our younger athletes flourished into high performance rowers."

Now in its sixth year, the NEWMAC All-Sportsmanship Team award is intended to recognize one student-athlete from each institution in every sport that best demonstrates the ideals of the NEWMAC and its Code of Conduct, regardless of their overall performance or statistics for the season.
