Wilson College announces Wilson Repeats As Overall, Women's President's Cup Winners
(VILLANOVA, Pa.) – For the second consecutive year, Wilson College has been awarded The President's Cup to the overall and women's athletics programs by the Colonial States Athletic Conference. The awards are given annually to the overall, women's, and men's athletics program with the highest competitive rating based on both regular season and conference playoff performance.
It's the first time any current member of the CSAC has won back-to-back cups for the overall or women's athletic programs. The Phoenix men's athletic program finished runner-up in the standings with Cairn University placing just ahead of the Phoenix.
"It is an incredible honor to be the recipients of both the overall and women's President's Cups. We're remarkably proud to have them both stay at Wilson for a second consecutive year," said President Wes Fugate. "These awards are a result of the countless hours of work by all of our student-athletes, coaches, and athletics staff. Whenever Wilson is in competition, they exceedingly demonstrate their spirit and represent the College at the highest levels."
Once again nine of the 10 CSAC sports Wilson sponsors competed in the postseason during the 2022-23 season. Two teams, field hockey and men's basketball, repeated as conference champions. Two additional teams, women's lacrosse and baseball, reached the finals of their respective CSAC tournaments.
As a result the Phoenix claimed 75.4% of the points possible to claim the Overall President's Cup. Cairn finished second in the standings with 69.9% percent of the points possible. Cedar Crest was third with 60.5%.
Wilson's women's programs excelled once again and topped the standings with 77.7% of the points possible. No other school was within 10 percentage points as Bryn Athyn took second place honors with 64.8%. Cairn was third with 63.2%.
There was a three-team race to claim the men's crown with Cairn edging out Wilson for first. The Highlanders recorded 76.6% of the points possible with the Phoenix in second with 71.9%. Rosemont was just behind at 70.9%.
"We could not be prouder of our student-athlete's accomplishments than winning the CSAC overall and women's President's Cup for a second year in a row," added Director of Athletics Tina Hill. "Our talented coaches and staff helped prepare our teams for continued success and we're thrilled their hard work is rewarded with these incredible honors."
Institutional scores for the President's Cup are calculated using a graduated point system with each participating institution earning a pro-rated share based on conference finish. The competitive percentage rating is determined by dividing the total number of points earned by an institution by its total possible points.
