Wilson College announces Softball Trio Named to Academic All-Distrtict Team
(GREENWOOD, Ind.) – The 2023 Academic All‐District® Softball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, have been released and three Wilson Phoenix representatives have been honored. The program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom.
As a result, Ashley Stevens (So., Valencia, Calif. / Valencia), Alecia Hamilton (Sr., Canton, Ohio / GlenOak), and Haiden Brookens (Jr., Fayetteville, Pa. / Chambersburg Magnet) were chosen to the prestigious list. All three were key contributors to the Phoenix's season that saw them advance to the CSAC semifinals for the fourth consecutive campaign.
Stevens was one of the top hitters on the team with a .317 average after going 20-for-63 from the plate. She scored 14 runs and hit in 12 more while being issued seven walks. She was 4-for-4 on all stolen base attempts as well.
Hamilton was third on the team with 29 hits and hit .269 for the season. Seven of those hits went for extra bases, all of which came on doubles. She scored 17 runs and brought in 11 more. The Ohio native took an additional 10 bases on balls.
Brookens was also a featured hitter who was third on the team with 33 base knocks and hit .282 for the year with six doubles. She was second on the team with 23 runs scored and fourth with 17 RBI.
Academic All‐District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All‐America® ballot. First‐, second and third‐team Academic All‐America® honorees will be announced June 6.
The Division II and III CSC Academic All‐America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022‐23 Divisions II and III Academic All‐America® programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All‐America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
Voting for the Academic All‐America softball teams begins today at noon ET and closes Tuesday, May 23, at 11:59 pm ET. All CSC members are eligible to vote on the ballots in their division.
