KENOSHA, Wis. --- Parkside sophomore Tanner Olson has been elected as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's (GLIAC) national Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representee.

Olson, a men's golfer from Peoria, Arizona will represent the voice of GLIAC student-athletes at the NCAA Division II level. Olson will now serve on the national committee for a three year term that runs until January 2026.

"It's an honor to be elected to serve on the NCAA Division II Student-Athlete Advisory Committee," said Assistant Athletic Director for Student Athlete Success Ashley Beaton Simpson. "We are very proud of Tanner, and are confident he will represent Parkside, the GLIAC, and student-athletes across the country, extremely well!"

The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) serves as the primary governance arm representing student-athlete interests in Division II affairs. SAAC members serve as student-athlete liaisons that monitor and discuss happenings on campuses, within conference and at the national level.

Representatives are responsible for gathering feedback and reporting on behalf of their conference, as well as relaying important events, hot topics and educational information to both the campus and conference levels. In addition to relaying information across campuses and conferences, the committee speaks on behalf of the entire Division II student-athlete body throughout the NCAA governance structure.

Division II SAAC members serve as voting members on several Division II committees, including the Management Council and Presidents Council. The SAAC also has voting authority during the Division II Business Session at the annual NCAA Convention.

Most recently Olson attended the NCAA Division II Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Super Region Convention in Pittsburgh, PA. Olson along with the other selected student-athletes learned new leadership skills, ways to strengthen the student-athlete voice, how to help build an action plan to further promote mental health on campus, and knowledge of Division II student-athlete initiatives and the Make It Yours brand.
