University of Richmond announces Campodonico and Oliveira Named to Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The University of Richmond Women's Tennis team has the honor of naming Andrea Campodonico and Leonor Oliveira to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team, announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Campodonico, an Asuncion, Paraguay native, compiled a 10-10 singles record this season as well as an 8-14 doubles record. Prior to the season, she was named to the A-10 Preseason All-Conference Team as the Spiders also saw a deep run in the A-10 Championship in Orlando this year.
Earlier this season, the junior recorded the lone singles win in the match against Penn over Munhoz (PENN), 6-2, 7-6(4) on Jan. 16, 2023, and had a strong showing in the 2023 home opening win over Norfolk State with a 7-5, 6-0 win on singles court three and a 6-2 doubles win alongside Polina Shitikova on court two. She also picked up the lone singles win for the Spiders against No. 48 SMU on Mar. 5, 2023, over Nylander (SMU) 5-7, 6-2, 10-6.
In addition, Campodonico recorded her first A-10 doubles win in the match against VCU on Mar. 18, 2023, with Shitikova, 6-3, on doubles court one and then picked up both a singles and doubles win against Rhode Island on Apr. 2, 2023. In singles play against the Rams, she defeated Rajan (URI), 6-3, 6-4 on court three and defeated Herrmann/Cvackova (URI), 6-4, on court one again with Shitikova.
In the postseason, she won the first doubles match with Shitikova on court one, 6-0, during the A-10 Championship first-round win against Saint Joseph's and then went on to clinch the match against George Washington in the A-10 Championship quarterfinal with a 7-6(0), 6-2 win over Ramirez (GW) on court three. In the A-10 Championship semifinal match against VCU, Campodonico recorded a huge singles victory, 6-2, 7-5, over Matasova (VCU) on court three.
Oliveira, an Oeiras, Portugal native, finished the season with a 7-16 singles record and a 2-6 mark in doubles play. The junior recorded her first singles win of the season against Radford, 6-1, 6-4, on singles court one and also had a strong showing against NSU, posting a 6-2, 6-4 win on court one in singles play and a 7-6 win on doubles court one alongside Carly Cohen.
She also posted a singles court one victory for the Spiders against Stephen F. Austin over Giannakogiorgou (SFA), 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 while she picked up her first A-10 singles victory of the year against Davidson with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Heiderscheit (DAV) on court one.
