University of Rhode Island announces Yoder Joins Softball Team for 2024 Season
KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island softball coach Whitney Goldstein announced that outfielder Sydney Yoder will join the Rams as a graduate transfer for the 2023-24 season.
Yoder, a native of Charlotte, N.C., has one season of eligibility after playing the four seasons with East Carolina. She has 122 games played to her credit, starting 82 during her time with the Pirates. Yoder is a career .255 hitter with eight home runs, three doubles and four triples. She also has scored 42 times while driving in 50 runs. As a junior, Yoder made 42 starts in right field for ECU and was second on the team with a .292 batting average and a team-high 31 RBI.
"Sydney brings high-level experience to the program after spending four years in the American Athletic Conference, which is historically a multi-bid league for the NCAA Championship," Goldstein said. "We have a strong nucleus returning next season, and Sydney will be able to come in and contribute immediately. Her maturity and understanding of the game make her a strong fit on and off the field as she pursues her Masters in Cybersecurity."
Rhode Island - which is coming off its first postseason appearance in 13 seasons and its most wins in 22 years. Goldstein returns eight position players who started 30 or more games in 2023, including four players who started at least 51 of the team's 55 contests. The Rams also bring back their top three pitchers from the spring.
