University of Rhode Island announces Rhody Season Ends With 6-0 Loss to Dayton
How It Happened
Rhode Island's breakthrough season came to an end Thursday at the 2023 Atlantic 10 Championship, as No. 3 Dayton blanked the Rams 6-0.
URI (23-31-1) had chances early, but it was unable to get any runs across against Dayton ace Izzy Kemp. Rhody put runners in scoring in each of the first three innings, but Kemp (13-7) was able to strand all five runners who reached.
The Flyers (35-19) broke through with four runs in the bottom of the third. Emily Daniel's single with runners on the corners drove in Kaelene Walter with the first run of the game. Emma Schutter lined a double to left center to bring Quinn Pallardy in for a two-run lead. Back-to-back groundouts brought Daniel and Schutter in to cap the rally.
From there, Kemp took care of the rest. She fanned 10 and allowed five hits while going the distance.
