University of Rhode Island announces Rhody Claims 2023 New England Outdoor Title
DEDHAM, MASS. — Rhode Island women's track and field won the 2023 New England Outdoor Title Saturday. It was the sixth New England crown for the Rams.
Champions
- Bethany DeLoof was crowned champion in the 400 meters, crossing the finish in 54.11 seconds.
- Lily Saul was first in the 800 meters in her first career New England Outdoor Championship. She won in 2:09.15.
- Xiana Twombly won the long jump with a leap of 5.77 meters.
- The 4x400 meter relay team of Trinity Smith, Sanaiya Watts, Sydney Federico, and Bethany DeLoof was first in 3:45.01.
Highlights from Competition
- Xiana Twombly had a podium finish in the 200 meters, claiming second in 24.58 seconds.
- Hannah Birdsall finished fifth in the 800 meters in 2:11.46.
- Megan Wood was fourth in the discus, throwing 45.73 meters.
- Wood finished third in the shot put (13.93 meters).
- The 4x100 meter relay team of Trinity Smith, Xiana Twombly, Sydney Federico, and Bethany DeLoof placed second with a time of 46.09 seconds.
- The 4x800 meter relay team of Erin Hurley, Lindsey Turgeon, Hannah Birdsall, and Lily Saul also had a podium finish, claiming second in 9:14.72.
