University of Rhode Island announces Rams Win 21st New England Outdoor Title
DEDHAM, MASS. — Rhode Island men's track and field is taking home more hardware, adding the 2023 New England Outdoor title Saturday. It's the 21st outdoor title and 26th overall for the program. Rhody is back-to-back New England Champions, after the Rams claimed the Indoor New England title in February. The team collected 111 points with five champions and 11 podium finishes.
Champions
- Tyler Rubush was crowned New England Champ in the 1500 meters after a 3:46.75 finish.
- Mason Brubaker won the pole vault title after clearing 5.15 meters.
- Orion Joyner was first in the triple jump with a mark of 14.57 meters.
- Devin Donahue claimed the Decathlon title with 6604 total points.
- The 4x800m relay team of Ianique Imboque, Collin Ochs, Owen Fleischer, and Tyler Rubush claimed the title in 7:39.20.
Highlights from Competition
- Jolon O'Connor placed third in the 200 meter final, crossing the finish in 21.35 seconds. Kyle Paterson was eighth in 22.12 seconds.
- Ianique Imboque was fifth in the 800 meters (1:52.20) and Collin Ochs was 16th (1:54.52).
- Eric Zulkofske had a podium finish in the 3000 meter steeplechase, finishing in 9:10.38 for second place.
- Kai Schmidt-Bilowith finished eighth in the 110m hurdles finals in 14.87 seconds.
From Friday
- Ben Fleischer was third in the 5000m in 14:16.92.
- Alexander Baez was sixth in the hammer marking 59.50 meters.
- In the high jump, Ryan Tona was fourth (2.05m) and Matt Santy was sixth (2.00m).
- Adam Dubois placed second in the javelin (69.21m) and Seth Cordeiro finished third (65.01m).
