University of Mississippi announces Track & Field’s Tarik Robinson-O’Hagan Wins Third Sec Men’s Freshman of the Week Award
From February 14, 2023 post.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Ole Miss track & field thrower Tarik Robinson-O'Hagan has won his third SEC Men's Freshman of the Week honor in five tries this indoor season, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.
Last week at Vanderbilt's Music City Challenge, Robinson-O'Hagan put together one of the best weight throw performances by a collegiate freshman in the last decade. He broke his own school record four different times in an incredible field series that ended with a three-foot PR of 23.05m/75-07.50 – finishing fourth in a world-class field assembled in Nashville on Feb. 10.
That throw currently puts Robinson-O'Hagan No. 3 in the NCAA, No. 2 in the SEC, and No. 1 among all NCAA Division I freshmen by more than three feet. Additionally, this indoor season that mark puts him No. 9 worldwide and No. 8 among Americans.
Historically, that throw by Robinson-O'Hagan registers as only the fourth 23-meter throw by a collegiate freshman since 2010 – the first since Kansas' Gleb Dudarev threw 23.44m/76-11 in 2017. In that same timespan, Robinson-O'Hagan's 23.05m/75-07.50 ranks third among collegiate freshmen.
Combined with his school record in the shot put at 19.73m/64-08.75 (No. 11 NCAA), Robinson-O'Hagan currently stands as the lone thrower in the world at 64 feet in the shot put and 75 feet in the weight throw.
Ole Miss will send a distance medley relay squad to Notre Dame's Alex Wilson Invitational this Saturday (Feb. 18) in hopes of clocking an NCAA qualifying time. The rest of the Rebel track & field team will take this week off to rest up for the SEC Indoor Championships, set for Feb. 24-25 at Arkansas.
