From April 4, 2023 post.
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – One of the most anticipated and exciting weeks of the golf calendar is upon us as the best players in the world prepare to tee off at famed Augusta National Golf Club for 87th edition of the Masters.
By virtue of his Top-50 finish in last season's Official World Golf Rankings – coming in at No. 33 – Illinois alumnus, and 2012 NCAA mens' golf individual champion, Thomas Pieters is slated to make his fourth start in the field at the prestigious event, after also competing for the coveted green jacket in 2017, 2018 and 2022.
Pieters, a native of Belgium, tees off Thursday at 9:36 a.m. ET/8:36 a.m. CT and is paired with Ireland's Shane Lowry and Mackenzie Hughes of Canada. The trio will open their round Friday at 12:48 p.m. ET/11:48 a.m. CT. (see image)
Pieters impressed in his Masters' debut in 2017, capturing a tie for fourth behind Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose and Charl Schwartzel. That 2017 Masters finish marked the best finish of his career in a major championship. Overall, this week marks Pieters' 19th start in a major championship for his career.
