University of Houston announces First Trip Brings Largest Meet

The University of Houston track and field team will go on the road for the first time this season to compete in a two-day meet in Albuquerque, N.M. at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic, Friday and Saturday.

STARTING LINE NOTES
- De'Vion Wilson ran the 13th fastest time in the world last week in the 60-meter hurdles, 7.69 seconds.
- Wilson broke the school record and American Athletic Conference record twice in the 60 hurdles, running 7.70 in prelims before his 7.69 winning time in finals.
- The Austin native ranks fifth in the country.
- The Cougars won seven events at the Houston Invitational including the 1,600-meter relay.
- Wilson and sophomore Destiny Smith each won the 60 hurdles for the third straight meet.
- Over the three meets Houston has hosted this season, all over consecutive Fridays, the Cougars have won 28 total events.
- 32 Houston student-athletes have marks inside the top eight in the American Athletic Conference.
- Seven Cougars hold the top time or mark in the conference.
- Wilson, Christyan Sampy and Priscilla Adejokun rank in the top 20 nationally in their respective events.
- Six Cougars rank in the top 50 nationally in their respective events.
- This is Houston's first trip to a New Mexico indoor meet since 2016.
- Senior Kelly-Ann Beckford is bringing the fourth-fastest 800-meter time into the meet.
