University of Houston announces Deja Vu: Nation’s Leader Earns Conference Award
From April 4, 2023 post.
For the third straight week junior Shaun Maswanganyi has been the nation's No. 1 100-meter dash sprinter, this time inching closer to sub-10 seconds, and was named American Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week as a result.
Maswanganyi ran an undisputed nation-leading 10.01 seconds in the 100 at the Texas Relays in Austin on Saturday. The junior was the only collegiate sprinter in the Invitational 100 and was just a hair shy of running sub-10 seconds.
The award is the Johannesburg, South Africa native's second conference Track Athlete of the Week award during the outdoor season and third in 2023.
Maswanganyi's time does not count for the program's top 10 time due to a 2.9 meters/second tailwind (must be 2.0m/s or less).
