United States Merchant Marine Academy announces Two Top-Five Finishes Highlight Men’s Track & Field’s Day At Ramapo Opener

NEW YORK (Jan. 20, 2023) – The USMMA men's track & field team competed in the 2023 Ramapo College Opener on Friday at the world-famous Armory in Manhattan. The event did not feature team scores, but the Mariners had a pair of top-five finishes.

Sophomore Konnor Bye (Liberty Hill, Texas) and freshman Luke Zwiesler (Colbert, Wash.) both placed fifth in their respective events to lead Merchant Marine on the day.
Bye had a mark of 13.30m (43' 7.75") in the triple jump, his best result of the season thus far in the event, while Zwiesler crossed the finish line of the mile run in 4:22.30, the best time of his career in the mile by over 10 seconds.
The Mariners will have next week off from competition and will return to action on Friday, Feb. 3, at the CGA Winter Invitational #2 hosted by arch-rival Coast Guard.
