United States Merchant Marine Academy announces Sims Produces A Trio Of Top-Three Finishes To Lead Mariners At CGA Winter Invite

NEW LONDON, Conn. (Feb. 3, 2023) – Freshman Isaiah Sims (Sunnyvale, Texas) had a great day for the Mariners on Friday at the CGA Winter Invite #2 hosted by arch-rival Coast Guard, as the plebe earned a trio of top-three finishes. Additionally, the Mariners beat their counterparts from the Bears in a total of seven events as part of their fourth-place team finish at the event.

Sims came in first place in the 200m dash with a time of 25.53, while also placing second in the 400 run in 50.36 and third in the 55m dash in 6.76.
In addition to those three events, the Mariners finished ahead of Coast Guard in the following:
- The mile run by freshman Isaac Clark (Weddington, N.C.) in second place (4:29.92) and classmate Luke Zwiesler (Colbert, Wash.) in third (4:31.04)
- The 4x800m relay by the team of freshman Silas Glynn (Folsom, Calif.), senior Will Bucher (Carlisle, Pa.), Clark and Zwiesler, who won the event 8:14.03
- The long jump by sophomore Konnor Bye (Liberty Hill, Texas) who came in second with a mark of 6.19m (20' 3.75")
- And the triple jump by Bye who won the event with a mark of 13.12m (43' 0.5")
