United States Merchant Marine Academy announces Porzio Headed Back To NCAA Championship Meet

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (May 22, 2023) - For the third time in her career, USMMA women's track & field senior Kira Porzio (Palo Cedro, Calif.) has qualified for nationals in the high jump and will represent the Academy at the upcoming 2023 NCAA Outdoor Championship Meet later this week up at the Polisseni Track and Field Complex in Rochester, N.Y. The event is hosted by St. John Fisher University.

The competitors with the top 22 marks in the high jump throughout the season were invited to NCAAs, with Porzio's Academy-record height of 1.70m tying for seventh in the nation. She achieved the mark in Kings Point during the season-opening Coach Omeltchenko Memorial Invite back on Sunday, April 2.

The high jump event will take place on Thursday evening, May 25, beginning at 6 p.m. (ET).

Porzio qualified for and competed in both the 2022 Outdoor and 2022-23 Indoor Championships, finishing as high as eighth place this past Indoor season to become the program's first All-American since 1993.
