United States Merchant Marine Academy announces Konnor Says Bye-Bye To The Competition, Winning Both Long & Triple Jump

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The United States Merchant Marine Academy track and field program saw its men take fourth place at the CGA Spring Invitational, trailing only UMass Dartmouth (120), Trinity-CT (80), and Coast Guard (77.5) with 73 points.

 Konnor Bye won The Academy 20 of those 73 points (27.4%) by placing first in the triple jump and the long jump, with distances of 13.42m and 6.74m, respectively.

 Isaiah Sims found the final podium spot in the 400m, taking the bronze at 51.26 seconds.

 Isaac Clark snatched the silver with a personal-record of 3:59.68 during the 1,500m while also PRing his way to sixth for the 800m (1:59.91).

Silas Glynn had a similar showing, going for a personal-low time of 10:04.43 in the 3,000m steeplechase to secure second as well as notching another two points for his seventh slot in the 800m (2:00.78).

 The 4x400m relay team of Sims, Lance ClemonsJason Healey, and Blake Giannamore were the last to medal for the Mariners, finishing as the runner-up in a speed of 3:29.54.

 PRs accompanied three other scorers on the men's side including Casey Symons' 10:34.73 3,000m steeplechase (sixth), Nathan Fields' 13.04m shot put (sixth), Andrew Carty's 18.29 110 hurdles (seventh), and Luke Zweisler's 2:00.92 800m (eighth). Zweisler also grabbed a pair of points in the 1,500m as well (4:06.10).

 Grady Ward was the only other student-athlete to land a top-five spot in the field, doing so with fourth during the pole vault at 4.30m.

 Corey Haney wound up four allotments behind Ward during the pole vault (3.25m) and Alex Burita concluded the scoring at eighth for his 11:05.36 speed in the 3,000m steeplechase.

 Katherine Kerchner was the primary individual standout on the ladies team, scoring a trio of points (sixth) during her PR of 12:52.44 while running the 3,000m steeplechase.

 Finally, the 4x400m relay quartet of Skyler BurnhamSarah LyonSayra Raya, and Kaitlin Reynolds registered a point by finishing 12th in a time of 4:44.60.

 Kings Point will compete in its final tune-up before they host the Skyline Championships on Saturday, April 15 as part of the Middlesex Invitational in Edison, New Jersey.
