Trinity University announces Anderson and Hampton to Compete at NCAA III Championships
SAN ANTONIO – Trinity University sophomore Azariah Anderson (Saint Charles, Mo. / Francis Howell North) and senior Casey Hampton (Houston, Texas / Westbury Christian) will both compete at the NCAA III Outdoor Track & Field Championships this week in Rochester, New York.
Anderson will run the 110-meter hurdles, while Hampton is set to compete in the long jump. The prelims and finals for the long jump will be held on Thursday, May 25, at 1:15 p.m. (ET). The 110-hurdles prelims will be Friday, May 26, at 5:00 p.m. (ET), and the finals will be the next afternoon at 1:50 p.m. (ET).
This marks the 10th straight season that Trinity has sent at least one member of the men's or women's track & field teams to the NCAA III Championships, which is also the seventh straight year that at least one member of the Trinity men's team has qualified for nationals (excluding the canceled 2020 season). This will be the fourth straight year that Trinity will have a representative in the long jump, as Sean Majors qualified in 2019, 2021, and 2022. The Tigers have not had a competitor in the 110-meter hurdles since Cody Hall finished second at the 2018 NCAA III Championships.
Anderson's best run this season came at the D3 Challenge in late-March, finishing in 14.19 for the second-best time in Trinity history. That was one of five times this year that he ran 14.68 or better, and he is just 0.03 seconds from the Trinity record set by Todd Wildman in 2009.
Hampton has topped 7.00 meters in the long jump seven times in his career and his personal-best jump of 7.22 meters came at this season's Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships. That mark puts him third on Trinity's all-time list behind Majors (7.52) and Hall (7.24), and just in front of Wildman (7.11).
Trinity has had just 10 different student-athletes earn All-America honors in men's track & field, including Wildman's NCAA III Indoor National Championships in the Pentathlon in 2009 and 2010. Below is the alphabetical list of Trinity All-American performances in both indoor and outdoor track & field.
