HARTFORD, Conn. - Trinity College senior Travis Martin (New Haven, Conn.) and junior Ethan Wilkie (Ellington, Conn.) have qualified for the 2023 NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track and Field National Championships at St. John Fisher College in Rochester, N.Y. on May 25 to 27.
Martin qualified in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:44.16 which is a new Trinity record, the second-fastest in NCAA Division III this spring, and just .10 seconds shy of the nation's fastest this year. He finished fourth in the 1,500 meters in the 2021 NCAA Division III Championships, was fifth in this year's NCAA Division III Indoor Championships in the mile run, and came in eighth in the 2021 Indoor 800 meters to collect All-American honors at all three meets. Martin's quest for the 1,500-meter national title was featured locally on News8 this week.
Wilkie qualified in the shot put with a distance of 54'06.50", the 11th-best top performance in Division III this season and also a Trinity record. Wilkie was a 2022 NCAA Division III Indoor All-American for his seventh-place finish in that championship meet and placed 11th at the Indoor Nationals this winter in the event.
