Thomas University announces Night Hawks Season Comes To An End
Night Hawks softball saw their 2023 season come to an end, dropping two hard fought games during the Sun Conference Tournament, held in Clearwater, FL. Thomas dropped their opening round game on Friday to #3 seeded St. Thomas, 4-1 and lost their final game of the season to #5 seeded Warner, 7-5, to bring their season to a close. Coach Jessica Sanders and the Night Hawks finished with an .500 record at 23-23 overall, 11-13 in conference play.
Game One
Thomas opened up the scoring in the 3rd Inning with a two-out homerun by Adreanna Killingsworth, putting the Night Hawks up 1-0.
The Bobcats would score one run in the 4th inning, to tie the score at 1-1. St. Thomas would add another three runs in the 5th inning, with all of the runs being unearned. In the game, Thomas would leave five runners on base.
Game Two
The Night Hawks would give up one run in the 1st inning and two additional runs in the 2nd inning, to trail 3-0 after two innings. But the 3rd inning would see Thomas plate five runs. Hailie Stewart would lead off the inning with a double. Averie Sheppard, would replace her at 2nd base with a RBI double. Sheppard would score on Addyson Mauldin's single. Jaelynn Vialpando doubled home Mauldin. Kennedy Hardy would score on a error during Elizabeth Soto's at bat. Thomas led 5-3, after the 3rd inning, but that would be all for the Night Hawks.
Warner would go on to tie the game in the 4th inning, and take the lead in the 5th inning. Thomas would never seriously threaten to score again during the contest.
