NORMAN - The No. 17 Oklahoma women's tennis team swept Texas Tech 4-0 in the ITA Kickoff Weekend championship to send the Sooners to the 2023 ITA National Indoor Championships in Seattle, Wash., for the second time in program history.

The team came out strong in doubles with a top-court 6-0 win from Carmen and Ivana Corley over Avelina Sayfetdinova and Metka Komac. To clinch the opening point, freshman Julia Garcia Ruiz and junior Dana Guzman grabbed the win, 6-3, against Camryn Stepp and Kate Dmitrichenko. When play was halted, No. 22 Alexandra Pisareva and Layne Sleeth were tied 4-4 with Cristina Tiglea and Olivia Peet on court two.

"It was an amazing performance by the Sooners today," said OU head coach Audra Cohen. "We started the match with our foot on the gas and finished it the same way."

With three more courts to secure the OU victory, Guzman took down Komac at the No. 3 spot in a dominant 6-1, 6-1 fashion. Sophomore Emma Staker defeated Tiglea on court four, 6-3, 6-1, to add another point to OU's score. To send the Sooners to back-to-back trips to the indoor championship, No. 86 Pisareva claimed the 6-2, 6-0 win over Andreea Lila on court six.

"We stayed focused on each court and took care of the details that we needed to take care of to get to Seattle," said Cohen. "The Sooner fans created a different environment and make it hard to play here for the visiting team. The way they get so invested in each match makes it so special to play here in front of an amazing crowd."

The Sooners will travel to Seattle for the tournament held on Feb. 10-13. The schedule will be released at a later time.
