The University of Memphis announces Tigers Put Together Strong Showing at Crimson Tide Invite

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Memphis Tiger men's and women's track and field team took home multiple top-three finishes this weekend as they competed at the Crimson Tide Invitational.

"Amber [Simpson] and Samantha [Lenton] both did very well in the hammer," head coach Kevin Robinson said. "Vitaliy [Favorov] threw the javelin very well and there were some other strong performances." 

NOTABLES

  • Samantha Lenton took first place in the women's hammer throw on Friday night after she had a final throw of 60.3 meters (197'10"). Amber Simpson had a personal best in the invite portion with a 67.11m (220'2") throw – improving her already No. 7 mark in the NCAA this year.
  • Lenton earned the team's first medal on Saturday when she took second place in the women's discus with a 53.97-meter (177'0") throw while Will Dibo placed third on the men's side with a 54.50-meter (178'10") throw while Sascha Salesius Schmidt came in fifth with a 53.43-meter (175'3") mark.
  • Vitaliy Favorov took second place for the third-consecutive meet in the men's javelin after his second throw of 67.10m (220'2").
  • Liam Walsh picked up first place in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase with a 9:05.22 mark after pulling ahead in the final 400 meters of the race while Chloe Figgins took third in the women's 3000-meter run with a time of 16:46.42.
  • The Tigers got two in the top-five in the men's 5,000m with Zachary Wyatt (14:33.98) and Vincent Chenier (14:34.32) placing fourth and fifth, respectively.
