SUNY Oneonta University announces Oneonta Men's Track & Field Finish First Day of SUNYAC Championships

BROCKPORT, N.Y. - Two members of the Oneonta men's track & field were named all-conference after the first day of the SUNYAC Championships. Junior Eion McClain (Andover, NJ/Pope John XXIII) was named second-team All-SUNYAC in the 5,000-meter, while senior Miles Moliterni picked up second-team honors in the weight throw. Additionally, the distance medley relay earned the gold medal. The Red Dragons sit in fifth place as a team, with 20.5 points. Cortland is in the lead with 46 points.
The day began with the heptathlon, and the Red Dragons hold the top two spots after four events. Junior Richard Mangogna (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) stands first with 2,583 points, while junior Aidan Kelly (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) is second at 2,499 points. Mangogna won the long jump at 6.48 meters and was first in the shot put with a mark of 12.08 meters. He also placed second in the 60-meter (7.48) and third in the long jump (1.72 meters).
Kelly won the high jump at 1.84 meters and was fourth in the long jump (6.26 meters) and shot put (10.62 meters). The heptathlon concludes tomorrow with the 60-hurdles, pole vault, and 1,000-meter race.
Junior Alex Mavros (Hopewell Junction, NY/Arlington) reached tomorrow's finals in the 60-hurdles after placing fifth in the prelims at 8.73.
In the 5,000-meter race, McClain took second overall with a time of 15:13.51. Junior John Balk Jr. placed 13th at 15:51.70.
Oneonta's relay group of Owen Sullivan (Huntington, NY/Harborfields), Alec Weiss (Selden, NY/Newfield), Luke Jarski (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa), and Jonthomas Bierman (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) won the distance medley relay with a time of 10:23.57, which was 11 seconds faster than the second-place team.
Moliterni picked up a third-place finish in the weight throw with a personal record of 16.06 meters. Fifth-year Jason Briscoe (Delmar/Bethlehem Central) finished sixth at 14.81 meters. Junior Michael Carey (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) placed sixth in the pole vault with a clear of 3.80 meters.
Oneonta concludes the SUNYAC Championships on Sat. Feb. 25 at 10 a.m.
