SUNY Oneonta University announces Oneonta Men's Track & Field Continues Season at Ithaca Quad Meet

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Oneonta men's track & field team participated in the Ithaca Quad meet on Saturday, placing fourth out of the four teams. The Red Dragons had 20 competitors finish in the top ten of their respective events.
Junior Eric Nieves (Thornwood, NY/Westlake) was the top finisher in the 60-meters by running a 7.27 for tenth overall. Junior Alec Weiss (Selden, NY/Newfield) placed 17th with a personal record of 7.50. In the 60-meter hurdles, junior Alex Mavros (Hopewell Junction, NY/Arlington) was 11th at 9.42.
Senior Cameron O'Connell (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) led Oneonta with a ninth-place finish in the mile and crossed the line at 4:44.21, while sophomore Matt Hayden (Long Valley, NJ/) finished with a personal best of 4:59.18 for 13th overall.
Junior Luke Jarski (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) won the 500-meter race by half a second at 1:07.40.
Hayden ran another personal record in the 800 race and was 11th with a time of 2:09.70.
Nieves finished with a career-best of 23.98 in the 200-meter race, which was good for 18th place. Freshman Nick Darrgo took 20th at 24.16.
Junior Christian Noa (Staten Island, NY/McKee) was the top Red Dragon in the 3,000-meter race after running a 9:18.71 for sixth overall. Sophomore Alex Chamak (New City, NY/Clarkstown North) took seventh at 9:41.86, and senior Justin Murillo (Elmont, NY/New Hyde Park) crossed at 9:43.93 for eighth. Sophomore Joseph Ayala (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz) took ninth at 10:02.38, and first-year Owen Sullivan was tenth at 10:15.14.
In the field events, sophomore James Tumia (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) took seventh in the weight throw with a mark of 13.24 meters. Junior Vincent Zheng (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) threw 11.83 meters to place 12th. Zheng took third in the shot put after hitting a personal record of 13.90 meters. Freshman Sawyer Eckberg (Maryland, NY/Laurens-Milford) recorded a mark of 12.12 meters to place eighth.
First-year Alex Ordonez (Troy, NY/Troy) won the high jump with a personal best of 1.91 meters. Freshman Chad Franklin (/) was strong in the long jump and was third with a mark of 6.38 meters. Weiss was seventh at 6.00 meters, and Cliff Biehl was eighth at 5.84 meters.
Sophomore Joseph Ciardi (Accord, NY/) set a personal record of 12.63 meters in the triple jump to place third, and Franklin hit a personal best of 12.58 to finish fourth.
Oneonta returns to action on Sat. Jan. 28 for the Utica Blue & Orange Invitational.
