Stokes Named Freshman of the Year; Montiel Named All-Conference
Andrew Stokes was named as the NACC Freshman of the Year in addition to earning First Team All-NACC honors while Trevor Montiel picked up a second team nod in the postseason awards released by the NACC.
Stokes proved himself as one of the top players in the conference early in the season, cracking into double figures in his third collegiate game and working his way into the starting lineup before the end of the calendar year. The Montini graduate was one of the top shooters in the conference, finishing just below 55 percent from the field for the season. Stokes averaged 15.2 points per game to lead Benedictine and amassed double digits in 21 contests with a season high of 28.
Montiel grabbed his third award from the conference after being named as the Freshman of the Year in the South Division during the Covid season of 2021. Montiel was a first team selection in 2021-22. The junior hit a pair of game-winning shots during the season, beating Illinois Tech and Concordia Wisconsin at the buzzer. Montiel finished second on the team in scoring at 13.2 points per game. One of just three players to start every game, Montiel was second on the team in minutes per game. The Roselle, Ill. native surpassed double figures in 16 games with a season and career high 28 against Lakeland.
Benedictine reached the semifinals of the NACC Tournament in the first year under head coach Jordan Townsend, finishing 12-14.
