St. Bonaventure University announces Softball Visits Youngstown State; Hosts Loyola Chicago This Week

The St. Bonaventure University softball team is set for five games this week, beginning with a non-conference doubleheader at Youngstown State Wednesday. First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m.
The Bonnies return home Friday to start a three-game Atlantic 10 series with conference newcomer Loyola Chicago. The Bonnies and Ramblers get underway at 2:00 p.m. Friday with a doubleheader and the series finale is slated for Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
WEEKEND LOOK BACK
- The Bonnies grabbed one out of three games from Fordham last weekend in the Bronx. Bona's was able to grab the opener Saturday morning, 5-3, behind a strong outing from junior Emily Phelan who struck out seven in the victory.
- Emily Piergustavo came up clutch for the Brown and White with a bases-clearing single that drove in three runs to lead the Bonnies offensively in game one.
- Fordham took game two from the Bonnies, 10-2, and won the series finale, 4-2.
PHELAN CLIMBING THE RANKS
- Emily Phelan moved into fifth place all-time on the Bonnies' all-time strikeout list with 183 strikeouts on her second strikeout in game two Sunday. She finished with five strikeouts in the contest and has now fanned 186 batters during her career.
- Last season, Phelan struck out 95 batters, marking the sixth-highest total in Bonnies history for a single season.
- Phelan leads the Bonnies this season in the circle with 72.2 innings pitched, 60 strikeouts, seven complete games, two shutouts and a 4.62 ERA.
BATTING LEADERS
- Brooke Bobbey leads the way offensively this season, carrying a .340 batting average to go along with a team-best 17 hits. Bobbey also leads the team in walks (14), runs scored (9), stolen bases (6) and triples (2). Bobbey enters the week ranked fifth in the Atlantic 10 with a .484 on-base percentage.
- Bobbey slashed .385/.556/.615 over five games last week, collecting five hits and five walks. The junior outfielder scored four runs and only struck out once in 13 plate appearances. She added a double and a triple to her line.
- Juanita Wolak is second on the team this season with a .283 batting average on 13 hits. She has scoring five runs to go along with three doubles and 16 total bases.
YOUNGSTOWN STATE NOTES
- Youngstown State enters Wednesday with a 13-14 overall record and is 4-1 in Horizon League play. The Penguins had won six straight games prior to Monday afternoon's loss at Detroit Mercy, 4-2, when they suffered their first conference loss. YSU has captured wins over Norfolk State, Lafayette, Providence, Saint Louis, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Memphis, Purdue Fort Wayne and Detroit Mercy this season.
- Sara Fessler leads the way at the plate with a .397 batting average, collecting 29 hits and scoring a team-high 19 runs. She is slugging .534 this season, pacing the team with seven doubles. Megan Turner has belted five home runs for the Penguins.
- In the circle, Devan Ryan is 5-5 this season with a 1.92 ERA in 10 starts. She leads the Penguins with 62.0 innings pitched and 48 strikeouts.
LOYOLA CHICAGO NOTES
- The Ramblers enter the week 8-16 overall and 4-2 in Atlantic 10 play after sweeping Saint Joseph's last weekend. Loyola Chicago also picked up an A-10 win over George Mason March 18, 7-6, in Fairfax. The Ramblers have also picked up wins over Butler, Incarnate Word, Stony Brook and FAU.
- Amelia Thomas leads the Ramblers at the dish with a .353 batting averaging to go along with 24 hits, five doubles and a home run. Sydney Barnett is second on the team in batting, touting a .288 average with four doubles.
- Peyton Pepkowski is 5-6 in the circle this year with a 2.70 ERA. She has struck out 63 batters in 72.2 innings of work, allowing an opponent's batting average of just .199. Andie Broniewicz is second on the team this season with 60.0 innings pitched.
UP NEXT
- The Bonnies head back out on the road for a matchup with Little Three rival Canisius. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 2:00 p.m. in Buffalo.
