St. Bonaventure University announces Softball Travels to Canisius; Hosts George Mason This Week

The St. Bonaventure University softball team returns to the field with five games slated for this week, beginning with a non-conference doubleheader on the road at Little Three rival Canisius Wednesday with first pitch scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
The Bonnies return home to host George Mason for a three-game Atlantic 10 series Friday and Saturday at Joyce Field. Friday's doubleheader gets underway at 2:00 p.m. and the series finale starts Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
FIRST PITCH
- The Bonnies went 2-3 over a five-game stretch last week, splitting a doubleheader on the road at Youngstown State and taking one out of three from Loyola Chicago at Joyce Field.
- Four different Bonnies drove in runs in the second game against the Penguins last Wednesday. Reanna Perkins, Abby Suhr, Elyse Graham and Abby Farber all drove in runs in the win. Emily Phelan shut down the YSU lineup, striking out seven and allowing just one earned run.
- The Bonnies took the opening game of a three-game set with Loyola Chicago, earning a 7-1 win in Friday's series opener. Shannon Costello and Suhr drove in runs early on the in the contest before Kennedy Haberl's three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth put the game out of reach for good. Phelan kept the Ramblers bats at bay, scattering four hits in the win.
HAMMERIN' HABERL
- Kennedy Haberl was selected as the Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week Monday afternoon after slashing .615/.667/1.077 last week, going 8-for 14 at the plate with four RBIs and a pair of home runs while also drawing two walks.
- The junior infielder collected both home runs in the Loyola Chicago series, belting a three-run home run in game one and a solo shot in the series finale.
- A native of Elma, N.Y., Haberl leads the Bonnies in batting average (.393), slugging percentage (.750), on-base percentage (.469), RBIs (9) and home runs (3).
SEARCHING FOR 200
- Junior pitcher Emily Phelan enters the week with 199 career strikeouts. She is just one strikeout shy of becoming just the fifth player ever to amass 200 career strikeouts in Bonnies program history. Only Sherri Thompson (530), Christine Keleher (384), Emily Hart (254) and Amy Ingham (240) have fanned more batters during their career. Thompson and Keleher are members of the St. Bonaventure Athletics Hall of Fame.
- Phelan has struck out 73 batters this season, leading the Bonnies and has five or more strikeouts in eight contests. For her career, Phelan has fanned five or more batters 21 times, including a career-high nine strikeouts last season at Youngstown State.
CANISIUS NOTES
- The Griffs are winners of three out of their last four, sweeping Quinnipiac Monday afternoon to improve their record to 13-12 overall and 3-1 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play. Canisius also picked up a conference win at Marist Sunday afternoon.
- Saige Alfaro leads the way offensively for Canisius, batting. 368 to go along with five doubles and 14 runs scored. Megan Geise and Rosie Gomez have belted a team-best three home runs apiece. Geise and Gianna Fazzolari have collected 13 RBIs each, pacing the Griffs.
- Geise is the Griffs top pitcher, carrying an 8-5 record with a 2.79 ERA and striking out 76 batters in 77.2 innings pitched. Alexis Churchill has tossed 37.1 innings, appearing 13 games with a 3.00 ERA.
GEORGE MASON NOTES
- The Patriots enter the week 19-14 overall and 6-3 in Atlantic 10 play. George Mason took two out of three from Fordham last weekend, rebounding from a doubleheader sweep at Longwood. The Patriots also have A-10 wins over Rhode Island and Loyola Chicago this season.
- Elyssa DeRose leads George Mason with a .400 batting average to go along with seven doubles, seven triples and a home run. Haley Taormina is second on the team with a .361 batting average and leads the team with 14 doubles, five home runs and 32 RBIs.
- In the circle, Aly Rayle is 9-4 with a 2.26 ERA to go with 114 strikeouts in 99.0 innings of work. As a team, the Patriots carry a 2.86 ERA.
