St. Bonaventure University announces Phelan, Young Garner CPL GoBonnies.com Athlete of the Week Honors

The GoBonnies.com Athletes of the Week presented by CPL for the week ending March 26 are softball junior Emily Phelan and men's tennis junior Luke Young.

Phelan was 2-2 in the circle in five starts last week, helping the Bonnies to a 3-2 record, including their first Atlantic 10 win of the season. She registered 24 strikeouts over 25.2 innings of work and allowed just four extra-base hits.

She started her week with a two-hit shutout against Buffalo Tuesday afternoon, striking out a season-high eight batters.

In Saturday's matchup with Fordham, Phelan went the distance, striking out seven in the complete game effort.

Phelan got the ball in game two of Sunday's doubleheader and struck out five while issuing just a pair of walks. During Sunday's game, Phelan moved into fifth place on the Bonnies all-time strikeout list with 186 career strikeouts.

The Bonnies are back in action Wednesday on the road at Youngstown State.

Young helped the men's tennis squad to a 4-3 win over Siena on the road Friday evening.

The junior clinched the team win for the Bonnies with a three-set victory at No. 6 singles, 7-6, 2-6, 10-8.

Young is 9-4 this season in singles play.

The Bonnies are back in action Thursday at home against Marist.
