Rice University announces Mickles Earns C-USA Spirit of Service Award
DALLAS, TX – Rice women's track and field athlete Arayna Mickles was named Rice's recipient of the C-USA Spirit of Service Award for spring 2022-23, the league office announced this afternoon.
C-USA's Spirit of Service Award is given to one student athlete from all 11-member schools and is presented three times throughout the year. The honor recognizes student athletes with significant community service endeavors, good academic standing and participation in their sport.
At the C-USA Outdoor Championships, Mickles grabbed points in two events for the Owls with a fourth-place finish in the 400m and a sixth-place finish in the 4x400. The sixth-place 4x400 finish gave Rice points in all 21 events at the championships en route to the first outdoor C-USA title since 2016 for the Owls.
Mickles, a sophomore business major, currently holds a 3.56 GPA and is a 2021-22 C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medalist and two-time C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll honoree
Mickles has helped and volunteered at the HISD College Career Readiness Panels, MLK Day Herman Park Centennial Garden clean up, Rice Owls of Color Unite and Team Impact Holiday Toy Drive. She has also volunteered at the Victor Lopez and J. Fred Duckett track meets and serves as a ROC-U executive board member while being an active contributor to SAAC.
