Waleska, GA - The Eagles finished up their 2023 season opener with Georgetown on Sunday with a doubleheader. It was a great day for baseball for a winter day in February with sunny skies and highs inching towards 60 degrees.

The Eagles would have trouble getting runs across the plate in game two of the series despite getting pretty good pitching from starter, Andrew Herbert. The Eagles would lose 4-0 in the first game of the day, but they would salvage the series by taking game three where Jordan Hampton pitched a gem holding the Tigers scoreless through his six innings. Nifty base running by Jacob Profit and Jarret Burney created nightmares for the Georgetown pitching staff and the Eagles would walk away with the win, 10-1.

In the first game of the day, both teams were held scoreless as the two starting pitchers battled it out on the mound. Andrew Herbert had good stuff going as he would strike out nine Georgetown batters and he was able to get out of a tight, bases-loaded jam to keep the Tigers off the board. Georgetown was able to return the favor to the Eagles when Reinhardt had the bases loaded and failed to push at least one run across the plate. Unfortunately, Georgetown's pitcher was just a little better as he would keep the Eagles off the bases and hold the Eagles to just five hits.

Georgetown would get two runs against Herbert and the other two against Brock Weiss who relieved Herbert in the seventh. Overall, the Eagles' pitchers did not do a bad job on the mound - but the offense was shut down and they had to take the game two loss.

In game three, things would open up for the Eagles as they would pour on 10 runs and threaten to have a seventh-inning shortened game. Lance Dockery would go 3 for 3 and score two runs in the game to lead the Eagles. Jacob Profit went 3 for 5 scoring two runs, and Jarrett Burney would go 1 for three scoring two runs. Newcomer, Jamel Rookard, would go 2 for 4 in the lead-off spot for the Eagles and he would score two runs as well.  The combination of Profit, Burney, and Rookard on the base pads proved too much for the Tiger's pitching staff. One of the most memorable plays of the game came when Profit stole second and third and with Burney reaching first - the RU coaching staff put on a double steal sending Burney to second and Profit home. The confusion set in for the Georgetown pitcher and catcher and somehow Profit was able to speed past the catcher to steal home!

The Eagles would enjoy their one win of the series and use the series as a learning tool for the rest of the way. Many Eagles got to see the field as the staff finds out what they have. It is a long season and the Eagles will see vast improvement as the season continues. There is talent up and down this roster both offensively and defensively.

The Eagles will take their show on the road this week as they travel to warm and sunny Miami for a series with St. Thomas. St. Thomas played in the Southeast Rumble in the 2022 season and the Eagles are returning the favor by traveling to St. Thomas, which should be a very competitive series.
