Reinhardt University announces Eagles do it in Big Fashion at Final Game of the Southeast Rumble
From February 21, 2023 post.
Waleska, GA - The Eagles were already having a good run in this year's Southeast Rumble with the team picking up three wins on Friday and Sunday. The previous wins were over a highly talented Webber International team on Friday and then they had two on Sunday with Indiana Southeast and Faulkner which added two more to the win column.
Monday's matchup was with one of the better teams in the Rumble - William Carey - who previously had been holding down opponents and coming away with wins. That all changed on Monday as the Eagles' bats came alive and the ballpark could not hold the balls in. Reinhardt would run away with the win 19-6, which has to be one of the highest run totals at Ken White Field.
Brock Weiss, who had a great game closing on the Friday evening game with Webber, would get the start in this game, but had to come out after the start of the second inning. He was replaced by Landon Perkins who was able to finish out the inning and give the team two more fairly solid innings only giving up two runs. Will Casel and Andrew Herbert followed Perkins and they did not allow another run for the remainder of the game. The first four runs by the William Carey Crusaders were given to Weiss.
The pitching staff did their job and the bats did not mess around with allowing William Carey to stay close. Lance Dockery, who has one of the hottest bats in all of NAIA baseball right now homered once again in the third inning to help the Eagles get back into the game from the early William Carey lead.
Nash Crowell would homer in the fourth to get the Eagles to within one run of the Crusaders and in the bottom of the fourth, Zach Rabe and Jarrett Burney would both get singles to score a couple of runs and give the lead back to the Eagles. These two would partner up again in the fifth to open the game wide open.
The sixth inning could not have gone any better for the Eagles as Rabe came up to bat with the bases loaded. Rabe made the most of the pate appearance as he would skyrocket a ball way over left field clearing the bases and putting the game out of reach. The Eagles were not done yet as Jarrett Burney would follow with a scorching solo shot over left field as well. Rabe would go 4 for 4 on the day with a walk in his final at-bat and a definite player of the game. Many Eagles are shooting for that spot with the way they are hitting like Burney, Dockery, Profit, but today belong to Rabe.
The Eagles added five more runs in the seventh to get the 10-run lead needed for the game to end after seven. Herbert would come in for the top of the seventh to finish off the Crusaders and give the Eagles the 4-0 sweep of their games at the 2023 Southeast Rumble.
The Eagles will be back on the road today for a single game with Brewton Parker and then they will be back at home with a conference series with Point on Friday and Saturday. The weather is warming up and the weekend looks great at the moment for baseball so come on out and see the red-hot Eagles play!
