Prairie View A & M University announces Several Lady Panthers had top Performances on Day Two of the SWAC Outdoor Championship

PRAIRIE VIEW – Several Prairie View A&M University women's outdoor track and field members had top performances Friday closing out the second day of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Track & Field Championships in first place with 79 points after nine events scored.

The Lady Panthers opened the day with field events. Savoria Anderson and Jalen Elrod put five points on the board first for PVAMU. Anderson and Elrod both had a PR with jump of 5.69m in the long jump. 

A trio of PVAMU runners scored 22 points in the longest event of the weekend. Naomi Davis claimed first place for 10 points with a PR time of 12:06.54 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, edging over her teammate Runelda Jackson (12:21.54) who placed second earning eight points for the Lady Panthers.  Jourdan Garnett finished fifth (13:06) to earn the final four points for PVAMU. 

In the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash, Asjah Harris ranked first after five heats qualifying with a PR time of 11:63.  Antwanique Kinsler ran a qualifying time of 54.55 to lead all in the prelims of the 400-meter dash.  Jyzmin Gray ran a qualifying time of 14:00 flat in the women's 100-meter hurdles tying her best time of the season.

In the field events, a quartet of Lady Panthers scored in the Pole Vault. Their efforts were led by Gold medalist Maci Guy for a first-place finish and a season-best of a 3.51m (11-06.25).  Junior Jacari Tate posted a personal best of 2.81m (9-02.50) and a fourth-place finish.  Sophomore Syriah Burks added a fifth-place finish for a 2.71m (8-10.75) , while Aliya Beechum placed sixth in the same event for a personal best of 2.61m (8-06.75).

The Lady Panthers hold the lead in the women's division with 79 points.  Southern University is second with 55.3 and Texas Southern is in third with 43.  After that, Jackson State is in fourth (35.3), followed by Alcorn State (25,5), Arkansas Pine Bluff (25), Grambling State (34.5), Florida A&M (19), Alabama State (18), Alabama A&M (12.3), Bethune Cookman (6) and Mississippi Valley (2).

The women's final day of action begins at 2 p.m. with the shot put on Saturday, at the Prairie View A&M Track Stadium.  The 4x100 relay is the first running event beginning at 5 p.m.
