Ohio State University announces Moldovan and Shipley Earn Ping All-american Accolades

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State junior Maxwell Moldovan had another record-setting season and he was recognized on Tuesday by being named a PING second team All-American. Neal Shipley also earned honorable mention honors in his first season as a Buckeye.Moldovan is now a two-time All-American as he also earned third team honors last season. He is the 14th Buckeye to earn All-America honors in multiple seasons and the first since Chris Wollman in 1995 and 1997.The Uniontown, Ohio native has set the program’s single-season scoring record each of his first three seasons. This year, he averaged 70.64, which was nearly half a stroke lower than his record from last season. He finished in the Top 20 finishes in 11 of 13 events this season, including a remarkable seven Top 5 finishes. He is one of just five Buckeyes since 1977-78 to record seven or more Top 5 finishes in a season and the first since Chris Smith in the 1990-91 season.For his career, Moldovan has 18 Top 10s and holds a career scoring average of 70.99. That’s more than a stroke lower than any other Buckeye in program history with at least three seasons. He already holds the program record for rounds in the 60s with 38 and is only four rounds at par or better behind Chris Perry’s career record of 71.Shipley played in all 13 events in his first season with the program and held a scoring average of 72.72. His eight rounds in the 60s and 19 rounds at par or better this year were both career-bests and he led the team with six eagles. Shipley led the Buckeyes at his first NCAA Championship, finishing in a tie for 29th. He was sensational over the first three rounds, carding rounds of 70-68-67 (-5) and helped the Buckeyes earn a spot in the final round with a clutch finish to the third round and a huge birdie putt in the team playoff.Both Moldovan and Shipley were also named to the PING All-Midwest Region Team this season.
