Ohio Dominican University announces Panthers Fall In Hard Fought Battle To Tritons In NCAA Tourney

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Ohio Dominican softball team competed in the second round of the NCAA Division II Softball Tournament Midwest Regional Friday afternoon. The Black and Gold battled through seven innings but were defeated by the Tritons of Missouri-St. Louis, 5-2.
 
Junior Alli Madden (Cincinnati, Ohio) was phenomenal from the plate going 3-3 and accounting for two runs. Gracie Jo Thompson (Ashville, Ohio) and Makaila Moses (Lancaster, Ohio) added hits of their own to the mix. Thompson also snagged a stolen base. In the circle, Marlee Jacobs (Plain City, Ohio) pitched 6.2 innings, collecting five strikeouts and only one walk.
 
How It Happened
 
The Panthers struck first in the bottom of the second inning with back-to-back singles from Madden and Thompson. A sacrifice fly from Alexis Stevens (Marion, Ohio) plated Madden, giving ODU an early 1-0 lead.
 
In the top of the fifth frame, the Tritons got on the board after stringing together three hits to take a 2-1 lead. In the bottom of the sixth, Ohio Dominican tied it up at 2-all with an RBI triple from Moses, scoring Madden for the second time today.
 
UMSL rallied in their final at bat netting three runs of three hits and an error, taking the lead again 5-2. ODU fought getting Kaleigh Golden (Thornville, Ohioand Olivia Congleton (Belpre, Ohio) on base with walks, but left them stranded.
 
The Black and Gold finished the year with an overall record of 34-22 and a conference mark of 20-4, along with the regular season G-MAC title.
