Mount St. Mary's University announces Mount Women's Tennis Edges Lehigh, 4-3, in Spring Opener; Mount Men Drop Matches to Lehigh and James Madison

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 February 5, 2023—The Mount St. Mary's women's tennis team opened the spring season with a 4-3 win at Lehigh on Sunday.  The men's team had a pair of matches, falling to James Madison and Lehigh today.
For the women, 
Ana Alvarez-Storni's win at No. 6 singles clinched the Mount's 4-3 victory.  Storni posted a 6-4, 6-2 win over Lehigh's Bella Peter's.  The Mount collected wins at No.2 and No. 4 singles as well.  Amber Policare swept past Junmoke James, 6-3, 6-2, at the No. 2 spot while Bella Pescatore was an easy 6-4, 6-1 winner over Allyce Gaborik at No. 4 singles.
The Mount won two of the three doubles matches to secure the doubles point for the first point in the match.  Policare and Pescatore won 6-4 over Anushka Dania and Megha Dania at the No. 1 spot with 
Victoria Papadopoulou and Shirley Laing edging Hansa Javagal and Peters, 7-6 (7-3) at No.. 3 doubles.
On the men's side, the Mount fell to James Madison by the score of 7-0 while also falling at Lehigh by a 6-1 margin. The Mount's lone point of the day in men's action was securing the doubles point at Lehigh. 
Elliot Stevensand Giovanni Abriola won at No. 1 doubles, 7-6 (7-4) while Jarrett Karnibad andFilippos Zachiotis earned a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles at Lehigh.
The Mount men's tennis team returns to the courts on Sunday, February 12, with a match at Temple.  The Mount women's tennis team is next in action on Saturday, February 11, at West Virginia.
