Mount St. Mary's University announces Men's Tennis Topped by Penn State in Opening Match of Spring Season

February 4, 2023—The Mount St. Mary's men's tennis team opened the spring season with a 7-0 loss at Penn State on Saturday morning. The Mount is 0-1 on the season.
Penn State swept the three doubles matches to secure the doubles point. Malik Bhatnagar and Charl Morgan downed the Mount's No. 1 doubles pair of Elliot Stevens and Giovanni Abriola, 6-2. At No. 2 doubles, Sam Bossem and Loren Byers earned a 6-2 win over the Mount's Luke Papayoanou and Marcel Cronin while the Mount's No. 3 pair of Jarrett Karnibad and Filippos Zachiotis fell to Andrei Paduraru and Pranav Nemai, 6-1.
In singles play, Stevens dropped a tough match to Byers at No. 1 by the scores of 6-4, 6-3. Pablo Martinez Zuccardi fell to Ismail Saadi at No. 5 singles, 7-5, 6-3 while Cronin was downed by Paduraru, 6-3, 7-5, at the No. 6 spot.
Penn State now holds a 3-0 lead in the all-time series that began in 2020. The Nittany Lions have won all three matchups by a 7-0 score.
The Mountaineers return to the court tomorrow with a pair of matches at James Madison and at Lehigh.
