Mount St. Mary's University announces Men's Tennis Sweeps Mcdaniel, 9-0

Westminster, Md. (April 5, 2023)--The Mount St. Mary's men's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 win at McDaniel on Wednesday afternoon.  The Mountaineers swept all three doubles and all six singles matches in the win.  The Mountaineers improve to 4-12 on the season with the victory.
In doubles play, the Mount's No. 1 tandem of Filippos Zachiotis and Jarrett Karnibad improved to 18-5 this season with an 8-1 win over Jake Kegley and Drew Rider.  The pair are just one win shy of matching the Mount's single-season record of 19 wins set by Taylor Place and Thad Mostowtt in 2009-10.  Marcel Cronin and Luke Papayoanou earned an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles while Oscar Castro and Andrew Allen were 8-0 winners at the No. 3 spot.  All three doubles matches counted for points.
In singles play, Zachiotis was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Kegley at No. 1 with Karnibad downing Chris Spann, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2.  Cronin and Papayoanou each posted 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively.  Allen won in straight sets at No. 5 singles with Castro also winning in straight sets at the No. 6 position.
The Mount returns to action on Wednesday, April 12, at Navy.
