Morehead State Eagles announces Tonnessen Claims Tournament Honors; Women's Golf Finishes Fourth

MOREHEAD, Ky. – Led by freshman Ruth Tonnessen, women's golf finished fourth at the Spring Break Shootout Tuesday afternoon.

The Eagles, who carded rounds of 288-284-307—879, had the best first round and tied for the best second round of any team in the tournament. They also tied for the tournament lead in pars and eagles, and were third in par 3 scoring and fourth in par 4 scoring.

Ruth Tonnessen claimed tournament honors for the first time in her collegiate career, and the victory also marked her second top-5 finish of the season. The Norwegian native fashioned rounds 71-67-72—210 and had success on par 3, par 4 and par 5 scoring, leading the team in every category, and was tied for the tournament lead in birdies with 13.

Olivia Hensley notched her third top-10 performance of the season, finishing tying for 9th. Hensley, who fired rounds of 73-70-74—217, was successful on par 4 scoring and led the entire tournament in pars with 44.

Hailey Rietz finished tied for 26th in the field after fashioning rounds of 71-72-81—224. Rietz carded an eagle on the 15th hole in round two and was second on the team with 35 pars throughout the tournament.

Tuva Marie Isebakke carded an eagle in round one on the 11th hole and was second on the team in par 3 scoring, while MacKenzie Neal finished tied for third on the team in par 3 scoring.

The Eagles return to action in two weeks at the Any Given Tuesday Invitational. The three-day tournament tees off from Caledonia Fish & Golf Club in Pawley's Island, S.C.
