Mid-America Christian University announces MACU Athletics Finishes Third for Inaugural SAC Commissioner’s Cup

OKLAHOMA CITY – With the announcement of the inaugural Sooner Athletic Conference Commissioner's Cup for the 2022-23 season, Mid-America Christian University represented the conference at a very high level by finishing third in the final standings.
The SAC Commissioner's Cup has been created as a symbol of excellence in athletics representing 16 championships. Member institutions earned points for their finish of each varsity team in those 16 officially recognized conference sports over the previous academic year.
Overall, the Evangels received 52 of an available 73 points with their seven varsity sports, scoring a rate of .712. MACU finished fourth or better in the SAC standings in six of its seven sports, including winning the 2022 men's soccer regular season and tournament titles.
"I'm so proud of the work of our student-athletes and the leadership of our coaching staffs," said MACU Athletic Director Marcus Moeller. "The Sooner Athletic Conference is full of great athletic departments, talented student-athletes and terrific coaches. We're proud to have finished third this season. We believe it shows a strong standard of excellence while still leaving room for us to continue to rise and accomplish more each year!"
The Evangels qualified for postseason play in five of their seven sports as well, with the men's soccer and women's basketball teams earning NAIA Tournament bids while volleyball, softball and baseball earned bids to the NCCAA National Championships.
Oklahoma City was the winner of the first SAC Commissioner's Cup, scoring a rate of .789 while Texas Wesleyan placed second at .758. Science & Arts and John Brown rounded out the top five, scoring a .706 and .682, respectively.
Next season, the Evangels will be competing in nine varsity sports at the Sooner Athletic Conference level with the addition of men's and women's cross country in the fall.
