Miami University announces RedHawks Compete at Billy Hayes Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.-- The RedHawks put together a strong showing at the Billy Hayes Invitational Friday with many top-10 finishes in both the track and field.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • On the field, Ryan Smith finished in fourth place in the men's discus throw with 50.58 meters. Smith also competed in the men's hammer throw event and finished in third place with 55.66 meters. Smith (15.89m) and Ben Riegel (15.82m) finished in fourth and fifth place in the men's shot put event.
  • In the men's 110m hurdle finals, Eman Alfred finished in third place with a time of 14.68 seconds. In the men's 400m dash, Leo Bouldin finished in fourth place with a time of 48.68 seconds. Jacob Ranker finished in third place in the men's 400m hurdles with a time of 52.20 seconds, John Wetula (56.86) and Joshua Mikulka (59.34) also finished in eighth and 10th place. Jayson Harrison finished in fifth place in the men's 200m dash with a time of 21.99 seconds.
  • In the men's 1500m, Jake Bertelsen finished in fifth place with a time of 3:47.96.  
  • In the women's 100m hurdle finals, Kayla Walters finished in first place with a time of 13.98 seconds! Sydney Harmon also finished in fifth place with a time of 14.94 seconds. In the women's 100m dash finals, Alanah Owens finished in ninth place with a time of 12.41 seconds. Nora Zubillaga finished in second place in the women's 800m dash with a time of 2:13.42. In the women's 400m hurdle finals, Gabby Cossio finished in second place with a time of 1:02.56 seconds. Abby Suszek finished in fourth place in the women's 200m dash with a time of 24.86 seconds. Owens also finished in eighth place in the 200m dash with a time of 25.69 seconds. 
  • Julia Rushing (4:37.37) and Jenna Sayle (4:41.57) finished in eighth and 11th place in the women's 1500m. The women's 4x400 team of Suszek, Cossio, Rachel Smith, and Zubillaga finished in second place with a time of 3:49.15.
  • On the field, Ella Rigel (54.32m) and Addison Hoover (47.63m) finished in fourth and sixth place in the women's hammer throw. In the women's javelin throw event, Allie Melchiorre finished in third place with 39.28 meters. In the women's high jump event, Elle Miller finished in fifth place with 1.65 meters.

WHAT'S NEXT:

The RedHawks start the postseason next weekend with the MAC championship in Akron beginning Thursday, May 11.
