Mercer University announces Davis and Uwaomah Named to Academic All-District Team

MACON, Ga. – Mercer women's track runners Tara Davis and Chidimma Uwaomah were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, it was announced on Tuesday. The Bears earned the honor for their success on the track, in the classroom, and out in the community.
To be eligible for the honor, student-athletes must hold at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or important reserve on the team.
Davis, who holds the second, fifth, seventh, eighth, and ninth fastest times in the 400m dash in school history, was recently named All-Conference in the 400m dash at the Southern Conference Championships for her bronze finish. The senior was named SoCon Track Athlete of the Week after setting a new personal best of 55.08 in the 400m dash to win the event at the UAB Invitational. Davis also competed in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays this year, earning a fourth-place finish in the latter at SoCon Championships. She recently graduated with a degree in global health with a 3.513 GPA.
Uwaomah recently earned a fourth-place finish in the 4x100m relay at the Southern Conference Championships. She set a new personal best of 12.59 in the 100m dash at the East Coast Relays in Jacksonville, Florida, at the end of April. At the UAB Spring Invitational, Uwaomah led the pack of Bears in the 200m dash, finishing 11th overall in the event. Uwaomah graduated this spring with a degree in biology with a 3.682 GPA.
