Martin Luther College announces Women's Track and Field Picks Up Nine All-UMAC Honors
St. Paul, MN - Eight members of the Martin Luther College women's track and field team received postseason honors from the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference on Tuesday. Erika Gosch, Maya Habben, Emma Nelson, Elise Nolte, Ally Platzer, Madelinn Romsdahl, Ella Schlei were each named All-UMAC by the conference. Head coach Breanna Olson was named Coach of the Year after leading Martin Luther College to their first outdoor track championship in program history.
The awards are based on performance in the UMAC Outdoor Championships, which took place on May 5-6 at the University of Minnesota Morris. The All-UMAC performers helped the Knights to a first-place finish at the UMAC Outdoor Championships following a school-record total of 188 points.
Gosch took second in the Javelin throw with a top throw of 34.51 meters. Meanwhile, Habben earned the achievement with her second place finish in the 3000m steeplechase (12:34.26) and in the 1500m run where she ran it in 5:16.51. The junior topped off her championship events, by taking third in the 5k with a time of 20:06.29 and earned a total of 22 points for the Knights.
Nelson found herself on the All-UMAC team by placing second in both the 400m hurdles (1:11.96) and the discus throw with a mark of 33.05 meters. Nolte received second in the shot put with a mark of 11.09 meters.
Platzer capped off her impressive senior season, by taking first in the pole vault. The senior had a top jump at 2.75 meters, which beat her previous MLC record breaking jump earlier in the season. Romsdahl continued her stellar freshman season and snagged a first-place finish in the discus throw (33.45 meters), while also coming in third in the shot put throw (10.43 meters).
Schlei rounded out the All-UMAC group due to her first place finish in the high jump, where she had a top jump of 1.43 meters.
Martin Luther College also won the team sportsmanship award, an accolade that is selected by the UMAC coaches and is awarded to the team that best represents sportsmanship throughout the entire season. Nelson would be named the MLC recipient of the individual sportsmanship award.
