Martin Luther College announces Men's Track and Field Receives Four All-UMAC Honors
St. Paul, MN - Four members of the Martin Luther College men's track and field program received honors from the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) on Tuesday following last week's UMAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Caleb Lash, Samuel Malliet, Jeremiah Stanton, and Micah Schibbelhut were each named All-UMAC. The all-conference postseason awards came after the Knights took second at the UMAC Championships on May 5-6 at Minnesota Morris.
The men scored 176 points, which trailed UW-Superior, who won with a final team score of 245.5 points. MLC was just 6.5 points shy of breaking the school record of 182.5 points, which was set last year at the event.
Lash earned the All-UMAC honor from winning two separate events in the 3000 meter steeplechase and in the 5k. The senior finished the steeplechase with a time of 10:23.80, while running the 5k in 16:25.33 to add 10 points toward the MLC team score.
Malliet capped off his impressive jumping performances this season with a first-place finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.95 meters.
Stanton showcased his versatility in multiple events in his freshman season and it was on display this past weekend, especially when he took second in the 400m hurdles (57.77). Stanton just missed first-place by 0.32 seconds.
Schibbelhut ended his record breaking junior season, with the All-UMAC honor and placed second in three separate events, including the pole vault, 800m, and the 400m. In the middle distance events, Schibbelhut had a 400m time of 51.53, while also running the 800m in 2:00.64. The junior previously broke the MLC pole vault record of 3.85 back at a regular season meet at Morris and duplicated that distance at the UMAC championships this past weekend.
In addition to the four individual honors, distance runner, Josh Zander, was named as the sportsmanship award winner. Each school in the UMAC has an athlete picked that embodies great sportsmanship throughout the entire season.
