Morris, MN - The Martin Luther College men's track and field team maintained their strong day one performance at the UMAC championships, to take second place on Saturday, May 6. The men scored 176 points, which trailed UW-Superior, who won with a final team score of 245.5 points. MLC was just 6.5 points shy of breaking the school record of 182.5 points, which was set last year at the event.

Caleb Lash would lead the way once again for MLC, as he earned another first place finish in addition to his 3000 meter steeplechase win yesterday. The senior went on to take first in the 5k, with a time of 16:25.33 to add 10 points toward the MLC team score.

Micah Schibbelhut would also continue his strong performance in middle distance events, earning second in the 400 meter run with a time of 51.53, which just missed the first-place time of 51.20. Martin Raasch would join Schibbelhut by tying for fourth in the event with a mark of 52.58.

In the field events, Samuel Malliet capped off his impressive jumping performances with a first-place finish in the high jump with his mark of 1.95 meters. In the triple jump, Seth Veers went on to snag third with a mark of 12.03 meters.

Isaiah Hahm proved to be the top thrower of the championships for MLC, finishing in seventh in both the discus and the hammer throw. Hahm would conclude his day by taking eighth in the shot put with a mark of 11.52 meters.

Overall, the men gave all around performances in both the track and field events, nearly equaling their point total on both days. Coach Bre Olson shared her excitement and appreciation for the group by saying, "I'm really proud of how hard the men have worked this season. All of the athletes wanted to see success for the team and it was really cool to see them all come together. Both the men and women are relatively young and I am so excited for what the future holds."
