Martin Luther College announces Habben Named UMAC Women's Track Player of the Week
St. Paul, MN - Maya Habben was named the UMAC women's track athlete of the week (April 24- April 30). The junior had another impressive showing in two meets at the Gustavus Invitational on April 26 and the Rider Bolstorff Invitational (Macalester) on April 29.
Habben started off the week by taking fourth in the 1500 meter run (5:11.62) at Gustavus and then followed that up with more success at Macalester on Saturday. There, the junior capped her week off with a ninth place finish out of 36 runners in the 5K with a time of 19:44.60. In the 3000 meter steeplechase, Habben would match her school record set last week with 12:18.99 in the opening heat, but ran a 12:27.08 in the final which was still good for eighth.
"Maya has been working very hard this year. Her race mindset has improved this year which ahs been really fun to watch," said Coach Bre Olson about Habben. I am really excited to see what next week brings at the conference meet."
Habben joins Matt Rieger and Jordyn Heckendorf as MLC student-athletes to win player of the week in their respective sports.
