Martin Luther College announces Habben, Gosch Impress at Rider Bolstorff Invitational

St. Paul, MN - The Martin Luther College women's track and field squad competed at the Rider/Bolstorff Invitational hosted by Macalester on Saturday, April 29. The meet featured the toughest competition that the Knights have faced up against this season, with schools such as Bethel, Carleton, Augsburg, and Macalester competing. Fellow UMAC schools in Crown, North Central, and Northwestern joined the Knights at the meet as well.

Maya Habben was once again a top performer for MLC, appearing in the 5000 meter run that took place a few days earlier on Thursday, April 27 and also in the 3000 meter steeplechase. In the 5K, Habben nabbed a ninth place finish out of 36 runners in the event with a time of 19:44.60. The junior would match her school record set last week with 12:18.99 in the opening heat, but ran a 12:27.08 which was still good for eighth.

The best overall team performance in an event came in the javelin throw as Erika Gosch took second with her mark of 34.09 meters, while Elena Brauer finished sixth (30.31 meters).

In the 400 meter run, Naomi Foley earned 12th out of 36 runners with her mark of 1:03.82.

In the throwing events, Elise Nolte received 12th place in the shot put with a mark of 10.73 meters out of 44 throwers, while Ella Schlei (34.93 meters) and Madelinn Romsdahl (34.90 meters) earned 10th and 11th respectively in the discus throw. 

MLC women finished 11th out of 18 schools at the meet in the team competition with a total of 24 points. Bethel took first with a total of 121 points.

The meet signaled the end of regular season competition, as MLC looks forward to their UMAC Outdoor Championships starting on May 5.
