Marist College announces Brock’s Homer Lifts Softball to Winners’ Bracket Final

BUFFALO, New York – The third-seeded Marist softball team used a late-inning comeback to defeat second-seeded Mount St. Mary's by a score of 4-2 on the second day of the MAAC Softball Championship on Thursday.
SUMMARY
Kiley Myers retired the first seven Mountaineers she faced.
The Mount's Avery Neuhart retired the first 10 Red Foxes she faced.
The Mount got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the fifth. Mariah Godde led off the inning with a single, and Vanessa Martin hit a two-run homer two batters later.
Isabella Manory led off the sixth with a pinch-hit double, and she scored on a two-out single by Maddie Pleasants. Haley Ahr followed with a double, which scored pinch-runner Kaitlyn Husic from first to tie the game.
Pinch-hitter Maddie Gore singled with one out in the seventh. Two pitches later, Hannah Brock belted a two-run homer to right field, which put Marist up for good.
Calista Phippen came on in relief to pitch a 1-2-3 seventh.
STATS
Marist outhit the Mount, 7-3. Five of the Red Foxes' hits came in the last two innings.
Myers gave up just three hits over six innings. She struck out nine and walked just one.
Phippen needed just seven pitches to get through the seventh, and recorded a game-ending strikeout.
Avery Neuhart pitched a complete game with three strikeouts for the Mount.
NOTES
Marist is in the winners' bracket final for the third time in the last four MAAC Championships.
Myers tied her career high with nine strikeouts, which she has achieved in each of her last two starts. Her scoreless streak reached 27 innings before Martin's home run in the fifth.
Phippen recorded her fourth career save, and first since Feb. 16, 2020.
Brock has three home runs in her last seven games.
Pleasants has 33 RBIs in her last 26 games.

Marist improved to 26-28.
Mount St. Mary's is now 32-19.

Marist will play in the winners' bracket final against top-seeded Canisius at 11 a.m. Friday.
