PRINCETON, N.J. — The LIU softball team added a late nonconference doubleheader against Princeton to stay sharp for next week's NEC Tournament.

The Sharks ended up dropping both games of the doubleheader to the host Tigers on Friday, 3-0 and 2-1.

In the nightcap, Alyssa Polemeni's solo homer in the fourth had staked the Sharks to a 1-0 lead. However, Princeton answered with single runs in the bottom half of that frame as well as in the fifth against Lindsey Cowans to complete the sweep.

LIU sits at 13-7 in the NEC entering a rainout makeup Sunday at 1 p.m. at Sacred Heart to close the regular season.

Central Connecticut sits at 14-7 with its regular season complete.

The Sharks own the tiebreaker by virtue of winning the April 2-3 series. So an LIU win against Sacred Heart on Sunday gives the Sharks the No. 2 seed and CCSU the No.  3 seed.

Otherwise, the seedings are reversed.

Regardless, LIU and Central Connecticut open the double-elimination conference tournament against each other on Thursday in Loretto, Pa.
