LONG BEACH, Calif. – After a pair of Top 10 finishes leading into this week's Big West Championship, freshman Jasmine Leovao was chosen as the Big West Golfer of the Month for April.
Long Beach State played in two tournaments to begin the month and Leovao was the top finisher on the team in both tournaments. Beginning the month with a four-under par 68 at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic, Jasmine ultimately had a 54-hole score of 219, three-over par on the Southern Dunes Golf Course in Maricopa, Ariz. That score was good for a fourth-place finish among the 108 golfers participating in the tournament.
Another Top 10 finish was to follow as Leovao matched her 54-hole score of 219 at the Silicon Valley Showcase. Going head-to-head with golfers from a pair of Top 20 programs in No. 1 Stanford and No. 17 Pepperdine, Levoao carded two rounds of 71 to ultimately finish in a tie for 7th overall, her third straight Top 10 finish.
Leovao is the second monthly award winner from the conference, following junior Hannah Ko who earned the honor following her second-place finish at The Beach Invitational in February. That duo leads the lineup for LBSU in this week's Big West Championship, which begins on Sunday morning from Spanish Trail Country Club in Las Vegas.
